About the School / Provision

We are a forward-thinking primary school in Edgware, North London, with a proud history of inclusive education. Our school serves a diverse community, welcoming children from a wide range of cultural, linguistic, and social backgrounds. We have a well-established Additional Resource Provision (ARP) for pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

The school prides itself on a nurturing environment that encourages children to achieve their full potential, both academically and personally. We value teamwork, creativity, and compassion, and we are committed to supporting our staff through ongoing professional development and mentoring. Our ARP is fully integrated within the school, allowing pupils to access mainstream lessons where appropriate while receiving tailored support to meet their individual learning needs.

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated, patient, and motivated SEN / ARP Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and energetic team. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, specialists, and support staff to deliver high-quality, personalised education to pupils with complex needs.

You will be responsible for supporting pupils both within the ARP classroom and in mainstream lessons, helping them access the curriculum and develop social, emotional, and communication skills. This role requires a proactive individual who can adapt quickly to different situations, demonstrate empathy, and implement strategies that promote positive behaviour and learning outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide one-to-one or small group support for pupils with SEN, including those with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and other learning difficulties.

* Assist teachers with planning, preparing, and delivering lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils.

* Implement behaviour management strategies to encourage positive behaviour and engagement.

* Support pupils in developing independence, communication, and social skills.

* Help pupils access mainstream lessons while providing appropriate scaffolding and support.

* Monitor and record pupil progress, contributing to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and regular review meetings.

* Liaise with teachers, SENCo, therapists, and parents to ensure consistency of support and effective communication.

* Supervise pupils during breaktimes, lunchtimes, and transitions, ensuring safety and inclusion.

* Assist in assessment and feedback to inform teaching strategies and personalised learning plans.

* Support the implementation of therapeutic interventions, including speech and language activities, occupational therapy exercises, or social skills sessions.

* Promote a safe and inclusive environment, maintaining safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times.

-----------------------------------

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

* Previous experience supporting SEN pupils in an educational setting, ideally in an ARP or mainstream classroom.

* Strong understanding of Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and other complex needs.

* Patience, empathy, and resilience to support children with challenging behaviour.

* Excellent communication skills, both with children and adults.

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

* A proactive and flexible approach to problem-solving.

* Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety policies.

* Experience of using assistive technologies or educational software is desirable.

* Relevant qualifications such as Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant, SEN Support, or NVQ in Childcare are preferred but not essential.

-----------------------------------

Professional Development and Benefits

We are committed to investing in our staff and offer:

* Ongoing training in SEN strategies, autism awareness, behaviour management, and therapeutic interventions.

* Opportunities for career progression within the school and ARP provision.

* Regular mentoring and peer support.

* Access to school-wide CPD sessions, workshops, and online learning platforms.

* A supportive, collaborative, and inclusive working environment.

* Participation in school events, enrichment activities, and community projects.

Safeguarding Statement

Edgware Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS check, and references will be sought prior to appointment.

We promote an inclusive culture and welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds, including those from underrepresented groups.
