Hays are supporting a large international charity that are looking to recruit a Head of Finance based in their Birmingham office. They are looking for professionals with experience within the charity sector and have managed a small team previously.
Your new role
The Head of Finance role is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing financial management, reporting, and compliance across several strategic areas, including international operations, trading, engagement, and charitable activities. The role involves leading a team of Finance Business Partners, supporting budget holders, and ensuring financial integrity through robust reporting, donor compliance, and strategic planning. It requires a qualified finance professional with strong leadership, analytical, and stakeholder engagement skills, capable of navigating complex financial environments both in the UK and internationally.
What you'll need to succeed
* Recognised Finance Qualification: Hold a CCAB/CIMA qualification with evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Senior Leadership Experience: Proven track record in managing finance functions at a senior level across diverse income streams and cost centres.
* Strategic Financial Oversight: Ability to lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning across UK and international operations.
* Charity Sector Knowledge: Understanding of charity finance regulations, SORP, Gift Aid, and donor compliance (e.g. FCDO grants).
* Team Leadership: Experience managing and mentoring finance teams, including international staff and Finance Business Partners.
* Advanced Reporting Skills: Capable of producing consolidated management and statutory accounts, and presenting to Boards and Committees.
* Systems and Data Proficiency: Skilled in using finance systems (e.g. SUN) and Excel for large data set analysis and reporting.
* Audit and Risk Management: Familiarity with audit processes, fraud prevention, and financial policy development.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to influence and support senior stakeholders across departments.
* Global Financial Operations: Experience managing foreign currency transactions, international transfers, and donor-funded programmes.
