About the role
As Manager, Applied Research, you will:
1. Lead: Build a high-performing team through servant leadership, setting clear expectations, modeling behaviors, and coaching. Communicate proactively and articulate ideas clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
2. Deliver: Translate complex business problems into solutions with defined outcomes, breaking down ideas into manageable milestones. Drive end-to-end model development with a collaborative team, ensuring timely software delivery.
3. Innovate: Experiment with new approaches, learn emerging technologies, and encourage your team to do the same. Lead AI, NLP, and IR adoption across the enterprise.
About you:
* PhD in a relevant discipline or Master’s with comparable experience
* At least 5 years of experience building NLP/IR/ML systems from ideation to production
* Proficiency in writing clean, production-ready Python code
* Experience coaching and developing teams
* Ability to translate complex problems into solutions with clear scope and success metrics
Preferred:
* 8+ years of experience in IR, ML, or NLP system development
* Experience with state-of-the-art research and real-world application
* Experience in fast-paced, agile environments managing uncertainty
* Excellent communication and decision-making skills
* Track record of delivering MVP in large enterprises
* Publications at major conferences (ACL, EMNLP, KDD, ICML, NeurIPS, SIGIR)
