Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounts Senior to join our dynamic finance team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of all financial reporting and accounting functions. The Accounts Senior will play a key role in preparing financial statements, managing end-of-year accounts, and supporting the financial health of the organisation. With a strong foundation in accounting principles and experience with accounting software, you will contribute to financial integrity while mentoring junior team members to foster professional growth. This position offers a unique opportunity to work within a structured yet agile environment, where your expertise will directly influence strategic decision-making and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities:
* Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with UK GAAP and relevant regulatory standards.
* Lead the preparation of end-of-year accounts, including balance sheets, profit and loss accounts and cash flow statements.
* Ensure accurate and timely processing of all accounts, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger entries.
* Utilise advanced accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or equivalent) to maintain digital records and streamline reporting processes.
* Conduct reconciliations of bank accounts, nominal ledgers and intercompany transactions to ensure data integrity.
* Mentor and guide junior accountants and finance staff, supporting their development through regular feedback and training.
* Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
* Identify and resolve discrepancies, improve accounting processes and implement best practices to enhance efficiency.
* Support budgeting and forecasting activities by providing accurate historical data and financial insights.
* Maintain strict adherence to internal controls, compliance requirements and data confidentiality policies.
Requirements
* Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualification in progress or completed is highly advantageous.
* Minimum of 2 years of experience in a senior accounting role within a corporate or professional services environment.
* Proven experience in end-of-year accounts preparation and statutory financial reporting.
* Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) with strong data entry and reporting capabilities.
* Strong understanding of UK GAAP and company law, including filing requirements with Companies House.
* Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
* Demonstrated ability to mentor and support team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex financial matters clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
