Job Summary
Provide evidence‑based counselling modalities in line with NICE guidance and the Talking Therapies manual to adults experiencing depression that meet suitability criteria to benefit from Talking Therapies. Work collaboratively with Talking Therapies colleagues who have stepped people requiring counselling for depression. Meet the National Talking Therapies standards, including a minimum 52% recovery rate, 48% reliable recovery rate and 67% reliable improvement. Deliver the expected 20 clinical contact hours (pro‑rata) per week and maintain productivity in line with the National Talking Therapies manual. Work across Sheffield as demand requires, with a minimum of 22.5 hours per week and Thursday afternoons reserved for non‑clinical time, including meetings, forums and CPD opportunities.
Responsibilities
* Offer one early and one late appointment per week and work Saturdays on occasion.
* Deliver face‑to‑face and virtual treatment sessions based on patient demand and service need.
* Manage all aspects of appointments and the waiting list system, coordinating with different systems used by GP practices.
* Provide an initial counselling assessment once stepped by a Talking Therapies colleague, including risk assessment and the offer of an appropriate counselling contract.
* Signpost or refer to a more appropriate service or intervention when required.
* Offer professional advice and support to referrers and Talking Therapies colleagues in Primary Care.
* Work autonomously within professional guidelines and best practice Talking Therapies guidelines.
* Liaise appropriately with Talking Therapies colleagues and GPs regarding concerns and treatment outcomes.
* Use data to reflect, guide and improve practice and performance, in conjunction with supervision.
* Contribute to counselling forums and CPD events.

Knowledge & Skills
* Knowledge of the role of Talking Therapies counsellor and skills to deliver evidence‑based modalities for depression in line with the National Talking Therapies manual.
* Ability to meet National Talking Therapies standards and productivity expectations.
* Proficiency with session‑by‑session outcome measures.
* Knowledge and skills in counselling methods appropriate to Talking Therapies, including contracting, assessment, interventions for depression, caseload management and endings.

* Professionalism in highly emotional and distressing contexts.
