Biodiversity Net Gain Consultant – ERM
Location: Hybrid – suitable for any of our 16 UK offices.
Overview
ERM, the world’s largest pure‑play sustainability consultancy, is hiring an experienced Senior Ecologist with a robust background in Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments within the UK. This role is primarily desk‑based and involves supporting our wider UK team in delivering BNG assessments.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead as the first point of contact for expert BNG advice to colleagues and clients.
* Apply terrestrial ecology knowledge and the UK Habitat Classification System.
* Utilise BNG metrics and other UK metrics (e.g., SSER Toolkit).
* Develop fee proposals.
* Produce higher‑level technical writing (e.g., ES ecology chapters).
* Collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams, building rapport and trust.
* Manage ecological inputs on medium‑ to large‑scale projects.
* Identify risks and opportunities related to BNG, minimizing the former and capitalising on the latter.
* Balance and manage priorities while maintaining strong relationships under pressure.
* Plan resources and workloads effectively.
* Mentor team members and foster resilience.

About You
* Significant industry experience in BNG assessments.
* Full membership of a professional body or equivalent experience.
* Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and manage large‑scale projects.
* Strong knowledge of UK legislation and the planning system.
* Excellent communication and technical writing skills with keen attention to detail.
