Description
Senior .NET Developer needed to support and enhance an energy companies existing application estate. The work is backend-heavy: complex data models, systems integration, API development, and data migration. The developer will take ownership of business-critical applications and must be able to ramp up quickly.
The role sits within a team of 23 across Development, QA, and App Support. A fast start is essential, we need someone who can hit the ground running.
Essential Technical Skills:
1. C# / .NET Core — complex backend systems (10+ years)
2. Azure — Functions, Web Apps, DevOps, CI/CD pipelines
3. SQL Server & database design — data modelling, schema migrations, production deployments
4. Entity Framework (EF) Core — migrations, code-first approaches
5. Web APIs / RESTful services — design, versioning, backward compatibility
6. Microservices architecture — service design, inter-service communication, resilience patterns
7. CI/CD — YAML pipelines, multi-environment deployments, IaC (Terraform)
8. Git — branching strategies in a team environment
9. Desirable:
10. Message queuing (RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus)
11. React or Angular front-end capability
12. ETL / data integration experience
13. TDD / automated testing practices

15. Self-managing — must hit the ground running
16. Complex data systems — large data models, integration layers, or operational data stores
17. Energy / Utilities sector — highly desirable
18. Technical leadership — mentoring junior developers, establishing standards
19. Comfortable with ambiguity — evolving requirements, cross-team dependencies
20. Strong communicator — able to articulate risks and decisions to non-technical stakeholders
Working Arrangements:
21. Hybrid: Manchester office 2-3 days/week (non-negotiable)
