Hydraulic Valve Design Engineer – Location: Coventry, UK. Salary: £55,000 – £60,000. Contract Type: Permanent.
We are seeking an experienced Hydraulic Valve Design Engineer to take ownership of the design and development of high-performance hydraulic valves used in safety-critical systems. This is a hands-on design role where you will be responsible for driving innovative solutions across the full product lifecycle — from initial concept and 3D design through to validation, testing, and production support.
This opportunity is ideal for an engineer with a strong mechanical background, a detailed understanding of hydraulic valve principles, and a passion for designing precision-engineered components that deliver reliability and performance.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Hydraulic Valve Design Engineer, you will:
* Lead the design, modelling, and development of hydraulic valves and fluid power components.
* Use CAD and engineering analysis to produce innovative design solutions that meet stringent performance requirements.
* Conduct detailed design validation activities, including FEA, tolerance stack-ups, and performance simulations.
* Translate technical requirements into robust engineering designs, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
* Create and manage engineering documentation, including design reports and Engineering Change Notices.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, quality, and testing) to ensure smooth transition from design to production.
* Investigate design issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement effective design improvements.
* Define and oversee environmental and functional testing objectives to validate product performance.
What We’re Looking For
To succeed as a Hydraulic Valve Design Engineer, you’ll bring:
* A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
* Proven experience in hydraulic valve design or fluid power systems engineering.
* Strong CAD skills with the ability to create and modify 3D models and 2D drawings.
* Knowledge of mechanical design principles, including GD&T, tolerance analysis, and materials selection.
* An analytical and systematic approach to solving complex engineering problems.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering and production teams.
