MEP Project Lead The MEP Project Lead is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, delivery, and management of all Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) services on a £75m construction project. The role ensures MEP systems are designed, coordinated, installed, commissioned, and handed over safely, on programme, within budget, and to the required quality standards. Working as part of the senior project leadership team, the MEP Project Lead will manage subcontractors, consultants, and internal teams to ensure successful integration of building services with the overall construction programme. Key Responsibilities Project Leadership Lead the delivery of all MEP works across the project lifecycle from design development through to commissioning and handover. Provide technical leadership and coordination of all building services disciplines. Support the Project Director in delivering the project safely, on time, and within budget. Represent the main contractor in all MEP-related client and consultant meetings. Design & Coordination Manage the MEP design development process ensuring compliance with employer's requirements, statutory regulations, and project specifications. Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and design consultants to ensure fully integrated design solutions. Oversee BIM coordination and ensure clash-free services installation. Review and approve MEP subcontractor design submissions and technical documentation. Commercial & Procurement Support procurement of MEP subcontract packages. Review subcontractor scopes, technical compliance, and programme commitments. Monitor subcontractor performance against budget and manage variations. Provide technical input into commercial risk management and cost control. Programme Management Develop and monitor detailed MEP installation programmes aligned with the main construction schedule. Identify and manage key services milestones including plant delivery, installation, commissioning, and system integration. Proactively manage risks to programme delivery. Site Delivery Oversee installation of all mechanical, electrical and public health systems. Ensure works are carried out safely and in accordance with project standards. Coordinate installation works with other trades and construction activities. Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations and company procedures. Quality Assurance Ensure MEP works meet project specifications, design intent, and regulatory requirements. Implement quality control procedures and inspections. Manage technical queries (RFIs) and design change processes. Commissioning & Handover Lead the commissioning strategy for all MEP systems. Coordinate commissioning activities with subcontractors and specialist suppliers. Ensure successful system testing, client demonstrations, and sign-off. Oversee preparation of O&M manuals, as-built documentation, and handover packages. Stakeholder Management Maintain strong relationships with the client, consultants, subcontractors, and internal project teams. Provide regular progress reports on MEP delivery. Manage technical issues and escalate risks where required. Key Skills & Competencies Strong technical knowledge of building services engineering. Proven leadership and team management capability. Excellent coordination and problem-solving skills. Strong commercial awareness. Experience delivering complex MEP packages within large-scale construction projects. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Experience & Qualifications Essential Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Building Services Engineering. Significant experience managing MEP delivery on large construction projects (£50m). Experience working for a main contractor or major MEP contractor. Strong understanding of UK building regulations and industry standards. Experience managing multiple subcontractors and specialist suppliers. Desirable Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards. Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers). Experience working within BIM environments. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) MEP works delivered safely with zero reportable incidents. MEP programme milestones achieved. Delivery within allocated MEP budget. Successful commissioning and client acceptance of all systems. Quality standards achieved with minimal defects at handover.
