Summary
A fabricator will produce work made from thick metal plates and structural steel sections, such as columns and beams, using a wide range of tools and equipment. This will contribute to projects for large-scale buildings such as the Nuclear Power plant at Hinkley Point C - which is currently the largest construction site in Europe.

£17,667 a year
£17,667.00 - £ 24,784.50 a year, depending on age. Pay rises each year depending on achievement in work and at the training provider. 25 days holiday plus bank holiday Pension Life insurance

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
* Read and interpret engineering drawings
* Assemble components by welding them together
* Ensure finished welds are of a good standard and the required size
* Use a variety of tools, welding equipment and overhead travelling cranes
* Implementation and adhering to all health and safety policies and completing all paperwork relating to health and safety

Course contents
* Work safely at all times, comply with health & safety legislation, regulations and organisational requirements.
* Comply with environmental legislation, regulations and organisational requirements.
* Obtain, check and use the appropriate documentation (such as job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation).
* Carry out relevant planning and preparation activities before commencing work activity.
* Undertake the work activity using the correct processes, procedures and equipment.
* Carry out the required checks (such as quality, compliance or testing) using the correct procedures, processes and/or equipment.
* Deal promptly and effectively with problems within the limits of their responsibility using approved diagnostic methods and techniques and report those which cannot be resolved to the appropriate personnel.
* Complete any required documentation using the defined recording systems at the appropriate stages of the work activity.
* Restore the work area on completion of the activity and where applicable return any resources and consumables to the appropriate location.
* Identify and follow correct Metal work instructions, specifications, drawing etc.
* Mark out using appropriate tools and techniques.
* Cut and form Metal for the production or maintenance of fabricated products.
* Produce and assemble Metal products to required specification and quality requirements.

Training schedule
* You will attend Derwent Training Association on a day-release basis, completing your Level 3 qualification over 48-months
* You will follow a learning plan in the workplace, supported by a mentor
* Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)

Essential qualifications
Other in:
Must have 5 GCSE's inc Maths, English and Science (grade 4 or Equivalent)
