Job Description
UM SMaP UK, based in Rugeley, Staffordshire, is seeking a H&S contractor for an initial 6-month period while recruiting for a permanent H&S advisor.
The role will provide full H&S support, guidance, planning, and reporting for our two sites: Rugeley (WS15 1UZ) and Loudwater (HP10 9UT).
The role reports to the QHSE Manager but will lead all H&S aspects, working across all areas and levels of the business.
The successful candidate will ensure full implementation and adherence to company H&S policies and procedures, compliance with relevant legislation and standards (including ISO 45001), update and review RAMS, investigate non-compliances, incidents, and near misses, and compile weekly, monthly, and annual H&S reports.
This demanding role requires excellent time management, organizational skills, and a pragmatic approach.
Key Responsibilities
* Drive positive change and mature the safety culture
* Collaborate with the QHSE Manager and senior leadership to embed health and safety strategies
* Oversee H&S risk management and regulatory compliance (ISO 45001), maintaining strong relationships with external regulators
* Implement H&S improvements supporting sustainable program delivery
* Support general learning and development activities, including training materials and sourcing external training
* Conduct internal and legal compliance audits to a high standard
Qualifications / Skills Required
* NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent (essential)
* Chartered membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IOSH) desirable
* Proven H&S advisory experience in large, complex, multi-site manufacturing or engineering environments
* Ability to navigate fast-paced, heavily regulated environments
* Excellent communication skills at all organizational levels
* Strong stakeholder management and experience implementing H&S management systems
* Proactive, authentic, and innovative health and safety professional
* Problem solver who enjoys challenges
* Confident communicator with the ability to engage and build trust
* Ability to work autonomously when needed
* Approachable, self-motivated, and eager to develop
Note: The successful candidate must obtain relevant security vetting clearance.
