Health Care Assistant - Paediatrics pre-operative assessment clinic

We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate Health Care Assistant (HCA) to work within the Pre-operative clinic in the Treehouse Children's Unit at Stepping Hill Hospital.

The successful candidate can look forward to working within a friendly supportive environment with training and development provided.


Main duties of the job

We are looking for an individual with strong communication skills, a confident user of IT systems with a keen eye for detail. You will also be involved in helping to provide play activities, required to assist the nursing staff with distraction techniques and support the escorting of children to other departments.

Duties will also include general housekeeping tasks to help the ward run efficiently. At times, you may also be required to support the teams on the co-located out patient area.

To enhance your development you will be required to complete the in-house care certificate training course within 3 months of taking up the post and will be supported to complete a number of additional clinical competencies relevant to the role.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and promote safeguarding by implementing the Trusts policies and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately.

If successful, this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary.

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16


Person Specification


Education & Qualifications

* Satisfactory level of written English
* NVQ2 or equivilant qualification in care or simliar subject
* Care Certificate


Knowledge

* Understanding of responsibility regarding confidentiality
* Understanding of continuing development and need to keep expanding knowledge
* Understanding of health & safety
* Understanding of caring


Experience

* Previous experience with children
* Previous experience of a caring role


Skills and abilities

* Able to organise self & deliver tasks effectively
* Evidence of previous team working
* Evidence of IT/computer skills
