Special Needs Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Support (Visual Impairment) To start as soon as possible - Recruiting for a
kind, fun, and proactive Special Needs Teaching Assistant
to provide
dedicated 1:1 support
to a
Year 8 student with a visual impairment
at a Romford Secondary School. The student requires a confident, nurturing adult who can help them access learning, stay organised, and develop essential life and academic skills.
Monday - Friday (Term time only) About the Role
You will be working closely with the student throughout the school day, helping them to:
Stay engaged and on task in all lessons.
Continue learning and developing
Braille skills
Support with
touch typing
, which the student is currently learning
Navigate the school safely,
escorting them from lesson to lesson
Access practical subjects including
PE, Food Technology, and Science
Build independence, resilience, and confidence
Use strategies recommended by the SEN team and VI specialists
We are looking for someone who is:

Proactive
and able to anticipate the student’s needs
Comfortable participating in
PE, Food Tech, and Science
lessons
Willing to learn and support with
Braille and touch typing
Confident in escorting a student safely around a busy secondary school
Able to work collaboratively with teachers and the SEN department
Reliable, enthusiastic, and committed to supporting SEN learners
Requirements
Experience working with Secondary aged students and an understanding of the curriculum.
SEND experience (visual impairment experience desirable but not essential) Level 2/L3 Teaching Assistant qualification
Maths and English GCSE grade 4 or C equivalent level.
