Location
We have a vacancy for a Network Operations Technician in the Customer Field Services department, working in the Wastewater industry to cover the Ripon areas in Yorkshire. You will need to be approximately 30 to 40 minutes away from any of the wastewater sites in those areas.
Work type
The permanent opportunity involves rotational 40‑hour work patterns on a 4‑on‑4‑off basis (no standby included). This will include late, early and weekend work patterns.

As a Network Operations Technician, you will deliver first‑time fixes and same‑day solutions to customers and environmental issues, as well as implement the asset plan for network maintenance to eliminate escapes.
You will work as a field‑based technician within a geographical team, improving customer service and waste network performance.
You will be responsible for ensuring a first‑time fix for customers and the environment, while ensuring quality follow‑on work is raised in accordance with our standards and specifications.
You will always ensure the correct site set‑up is in place and that POWRA is completed prior to and during jobs to identify risks and undertake corrective preventive activity to keep everyone safe.
To safely maintain the sewerage network proactively and reactively, you will promote and implement solutions that resolve and/or prevent sewage escape (flooding and pollution) and prevent repeats.
You will work closely with Yorkshire Water teams and contracted partners to resolve and manage operational issues on the sewer network.
You will be required to operate different vehicle types to complete work, depending on availability and the type of work attending.
You will undertake thorough and timely investigations of the sewerage system to resolve issues and prevent repeat customer contacts, and support other operational teams with investigations into sewer asset problems.
You will use IT systems to collate information and relay feedback.
You will collate data and information for evidence capturing, including assessing photographs, plans and reporting on any escape/issues from the sewer network.
You may be required to maintain and install Customer Sewer Alarms on the network and work with third‑party providers where support is required.
You will ensure Health and Safety working practices & procedures are always complied with. When making day‑to‑day business decisions you will demonstrate financial awareness and provide technical support and first‑line response to customer contacts to promote a fix‑first‑time resolution & ensure the most cost‑effective resolution is promoted.
What skills & qualifications you will need.
Essential
* Practical mindset, able to work outdoors in all weathers and comfortable with a hands‑on approach.
* Previous experience in a customer service‑related role with face‑to‑face communication with customers.
* Ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external working relationships across the business and influence outcomes and make decisions.
* Prepared to question unsafe working practices and confidently report these to management.
* Excellent communication skills, able to capture, evidence and feedback information, influence outcomes and make decisions, and deliver against challenging business targets.
* Ability to find faults and diagnose the root cause of an issue.
* Rational problem‑solving skills with basic IT skills; you will use internal IT systems to capture necessary site information on a Toughbook.
* Working a variety of rotas; once fully trained you will take part in an out‑of‑hour standby rota – flexibility is essential.
* Required to work within confined spaces and pass strict medical criteria including BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing and Spirometry tests to ensure full safety when working in hazardous environments.
* Full valid driving licence with no more than 6 points.

* Understanding of the sewerage system and performance issues.
* Competency in the use of IT systems applicable to Yorkshire Water.
* Previous experience within the water or wastewater sectors, or within the broader utilities, process or manufacturing industry sectors, or an understanding of drainage and sewerage systems.
