The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team
comprising of both senior and junior medical staff, nurses and other allied
health professionals. Duties will normally be comparable to those undertaken by a core surgical trainee (CT1/2). However, in exceptional cases you may be required to vary these at the direction of the Supervising Consultant.
Main duties of the job
Routine and emergency patients must be seen and admitted expeditiously. Ward rounds and visits to individual patients may be necessary. Keeping such records as may be required; these must be dated and initialed, together with any other related administrative duties including discharge and clinic letters. The patient’s discharge summary paperwork is to be completed prior to the patients discharge. Clinic letters are dictated within clinic and typed by the secretaries.
Supervision of the Foundation year 1 / 2 doctors when performing clinical duties.
Duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant(s), in consultation where possible with colleagues both senior and junior. Additional commitments arising under this paragraph are exceptional. In particular, the doctor will not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.
Agree to read and follow any protocols laid down (either in writing or verbally) for the firm in which you are working. In case of any difficulties ensure that advice is sought from a senior colleague.
An on call/Normal Working Day working pattern (according to the published rota) not exceeding 48 hours including prospective cover for annual and study leave.
The post holder undertakes exceptionally, to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
ON-CALL DUTIES AND EXTRA DUTIES HOURS:
The hours of duty will be the base working week of 40 hours, plus a
supplement of your base salary. Duty hours are reviewed on a 6 monthly
basis and may be varied prior to commencing the post. Any variation will
be in line with Junior Doctors Hours and will be notified in the contract of
employment or on appointment.
WORKING PATTERN OF FY2 AND FY1 IN SURGERY
A full shift system is in operation and includes prospective cover for annual and study leave.
Duty hours are as follows:-
1:7 weekdays 0800 – 2030 hours
1:16 nights 2000 – 0830 hours
NWD 0800 – 1700 hours
The FY1 work a full shift system.
The post holder will be expected to cover for absent colleagues in an emergency situation (eg sickness, injury, instances where an arranged locum does not arrive at short notice and similar situations).
Hours of Duty
