Job Title: Design/Development Engineer (Special Purpose Machines) - Submarines
Rolls-Royce has an exciting opportunity for a Design/Development Engineer to join the Special Purpose Machines Team within the Submarines business. This role involves involvement in all stages of product development, from feasibility and concept through design, build, development, training, and implementation. You will see your ideas become reality in a fast-paced environment, where problem-solving and engineering skills are challenged and developed.
The Special Purpose Machines (SPM) team develops bespoke repair, inspection, and maintenance capabilities supporting the Royal Navy's nuclear submarine fleet. SPM specializes in designing portable cutting/dressing machines, compact sampling equipment, and inspection manipulators. This role offers a chance to make an impact in a dynamic area of the business.

Responsibilities:
1. Developing innovative engineering solutions from concept to implementation, adhering to customer and governance requirements within time, cost, and quality constraints.
2. Managing day-to-day activities and risks to deliver SPM solutions.
3. Producing design solutions and engineering drawings, presenting at gated design reviews.
4. Providing technical support to subcontractors and overseeing equipment build/assembly activities.
5. Creating development test plans, performing trials, and validating capabilities.
6. Producing operating procedures, training personnel, and supporting initial onsite deployment.
Candidate Profile:
* Understanding of engineering principles such as design for manufacture, assembly, maintenance, and health and safety, especially in nuclear applications.
* Practical experience with machining processes and tools, including cutting machines, dressing machines, manipulators, and mechanisms.
* Previous machine design and development experience, preferably with bespoke special purpose machines, along with technical documentation.
* Proficiency in CAD tools, ideally Siemens-NX.
* A Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
