To ensure that all vehicles carrying waste or recyclables are weighed on entering and exiting the facility in accordance with all Group policies, and in compliance with all statutory regulations and requirements. Duties and key responsibilities - SHEQ Responsible for his personal safety and that of all personnel under his or her authority, including others who may be affected by the company's activities. In particular: Carry out assigned tasks and duties in a safe manner, in accordance with instructions,and to comply with safety rules/procedures, regulations and codes of practice. If aware of any unsafe practice or condition, or if in any doubt about the safety of any situation, consult their supervisor. Obtain and use the correct tools/equipment for the work and not to use any that are unsafe or damaged. All tools, equipment and personal protective equipment must bestored in the approved place after use. Ensure that all guards are securely fixed and that all safety equipment and personal protective clothing/equipment provided are used. Not to operate any plant or equipment unless authorised. To report any accident, near-miss, dangerous occurrence or dangerous condition to their line management. To switch off and secure unattended plant or equipment. To avoid improvised arrangements and suggest safe ways of eliminating hazards. Not to participate in horseplay or place fellow employees in danger by their actions. Adopt a proactive manner to energy usage and suggest ways of improving energy Duties and key responsibilities - Operational To assist site management in controlling and co-ordinate a safe and efficient operation of site in accordance with management instructions, health & safety and legislative requirements such as working plans, planning permissions, waste management permits etc. To be aware of, and conversant with, the relevant details of the waste management permit, integrated management system, risk assessments, COSHH assessments, emergency procedures and other relevant health & safety and environmental documents as directed by the site management. To protect the company's ability to trade by ensuring compliance with relevant legislation at all times and especially that concerning health and safety in the workplace and the 'Duty of Care'. To ensure that equipment is maintained as specified and the appropriate records are completed. To operate the weighbridge systems in accordance with the Duty of Care regulations, waste management permit and Group policies & procedures, and maintain reliable, adequate and accurate records thereof. To be courteous to customers at all times, thereby providing exemplary customer service. To assist customers wherever safe, practical and necessary. To provide accurate information regarding volumes of waste and recyclables held on site to haulage contractors and to assist them wherever safe, practical and necessary. To ensure that all drivers that report to the weighbridge receive site rules and that records of their issue are maintained. To report to the site management any breach of rules, act of dishonesty, malpractice or corruption by any member of the public, visitor to the site, or member of staff. Ensure the area around the weighbridge office is kept clean and tidy To undertake any other duties reasonably requested by company management, including working at other sites. Experience Good timekeeping is essential. Proven written and oral communication skills. IT literate and have good numerical skills. Essential Knowledge Satisfactory completion of the relevant Competency Management System modules. Completion of all other training as defined within the Training Matrix. A good understanding of Duty of Care and Waste Management Legislation Personal attributes and other requirements Be adaptable and show that they can deal with any new operational problems as they arise and, be able to operate as part of a larger team. Be able to embrace change, flexible in their approach, committed to finding more cost effective ways of doing things and be able to put them into practice. An honest, hardworking person who can use his/her initiative to maintain operations within a group of Transfer Stations according with company standards. Comfortable dealing with staff, peers and external contacts. This is a full-time position that will be Temp to Perm for a successful candidate. Previous weighbridge or waste experience that would include Waste Duty of Care knowledge and an understanding of Hazardous Waste Consignment notes would be a very distinct advantage. Successful candidate will have good IT skills with basic experience with Excel. Pay will be dependent on skills & experience
