We are looking for a friendly and reliable Phlebotomist to join our hardworking team. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients in a professional and compassionate manner, while maintaining high standards of infection control and safe working practices.
The role involves working closely with the wider GP practice team, including GPs, nurses, allied healthcare professionals, and administrative staff, to support the delivery of effective and high quality clinical services.
This position is contracted for 8-12 hours per week and there is some degree of flexibility for working particular days or hours. There may also be opportunities for additional hours as service needs require.
Main duties of the job
* Patient assessment BP, height, weight, BMI calculation
* Ensuring patient needs and care are met.
* Urine analysis & processing of samples including handling and storage of specimens in line with IPC policy.
* Attending Church Walk Surgery clinical meetings, scheduled training and appraisals when appropriate.
* Ensuring all training both mandatory and refresher training is kept up to date
* Adhering to Infection Prevention Control & sharps safety
Job responsibilities
* Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible
* Obtaining consent for the collection of a blood samples
* Adhering to the chaperone policy
* Collection of samples of blood in accordance with training and local policies and procedures
* Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity, ensuring correct packaging
* Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical system
* Ensuring all samples are stored in appropriate containers
* Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure
* Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion
* Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff
* Manage clinical supplies e.g. monitoring stock levels, ordering, re-stocking of clinical areas and maintenance of equipment.
* Participate in quality improvement e.g. audit, development of protocols and new services.
Person Specification
* GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
* Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
* Experience of working in a primary care environment
