Gynaecology Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 (37.5 hours) Gynaecology Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist to work within the Gynaecology Oncology Team at the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals, which covers a large population providing diagnostic services and delivery of chemotherapy and surgery for early-stage gynaecological cancers. We are looking for a dynamic, highly motivated individual with a keen interest in gynaecology and oncology nursing.
Experience in Gynaecology and/or Oncology is essential. The post holder will be a core member of the Specialist Multi-disciplinary Team within Mid Yorkshire Teaching Hospitals and The St James's Institute of Oncology at Leeds, attending weekly MDT meetings via Microsoft Teams.
You will work collaboratively with other MDT members to provide high standards of specialist nursing care to patients within gynae-oncology.
You will be committed to delivering high-quality clinical services within Gynaecology Oncology, aiming to make a difference to women's lives by providing evidence-based care, implementing change, and improving quality through relevant organisational processes.
The post holder will work with senior and junior staff to coordinate and deliver quality nursing care standards.
In addition to clinical skills, you will develop your leadership and managerial potential within the department to support the senior Clinical Nurse Specialist.
Main duties of the job
* Undertake specialist assessment of patients' nursing needs, and plan, implement, and evaluate care delivery using clinical knowledge and skills.
* Manage a patient caseload, providing expert assessment, planning, and evaluation.
* Hold nurse-led clinics for end of treatment and holistic needs assessment.
* Deliver a diagnosis of cancer through nurse-led clinics, following local guidelines and protocols.
* Undertake non-medical referrer training to request diagnostic scans and investigations within the scope of gynaecology/oncology practice.
* Contribute to a multi-professional approach in managing patients, especially regarding ongoing care and discharge plans.
* Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and their families/caregivers.
* Support patients and families, providing necessary information for self-management and participation in care.
* Recognize changes in patients' conditions requiring intervention and refer appropriately.
* Work with the CNS/Team Leader to promote the development of nurses in extended roles.
* Participate in advanced communication skills training for breaking bad news and handling emotive situations.
