Job Summary
The Relief Counselor provides direct services to adults living in residential programs in a manner that promotes consumer stability, development of skills, empowerment, and recovery.
Shifts Available
* Weekdays and Weekends
* Mornings - 8:30am-4:30pm
* Afternoons - 3:00pm-11:00pm
* Overnights - 11:00pm-7:00am
This is a non-exempt position with on-call shifts, limited to 30 hours per week. Hours are not guaranteed and scheduling depends on available shifts. Relief staff have the flexibility to choose which shifts to accept with a minimum requirement of one shift per month.
Essential Functions
* Implements program activities to foster consumer growth, address treatment plan goals, and help develop skills.
* Follows shift log assignments and completes all shift duties.
* Teaches daily living skills (safety, travel training, banking, cooking, shopping, budgeting, hygiene, personal space and belongings care).
* Provides supportive counseling around daily, personal, and social issues.
* Maintains programmatic documentation in accordance with agency standards.
* Assists with medication management and administers medications as needed.
* Provides crisis prevention and intervention as needed.
* Completes household cleaning as assigned.
* Performs other duties as requested by the Program Director.
Job Requirements
* Understanding of the psychiatric, physical, social, emotional, and educational needs of adults with mental illness.
* Ability to work effectively with adults with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities to support stability, empowerment, growth, and recovery.
* Sensitivity to the needs of adults with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities and their families.
* Ability to work collaboratively with other providers and neighbors.
* Good writing and communication skills.
* Previous experience in human services or as a caretaker to family/friends.
* CPR/First Aid Certification (must obtain within one month of starting).
* Prevent Training (must obtain within one month of starting).
* Must stay up to date on company online training.
* MAP Certification (preferred).
* Must be available to attend required meetings and training.
