About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Buyer or Senior Buyer to take a leading role in managing procurement across our aerospace and energy programmes. This position is critical to ensuring the reliable, cost-effective supply of materials, components, and services that support our production and delivery commitments.

Working within a fast-paced SME environment, you will take ownership of supplier relationships, commercial negotiations, and supply chain performance. You will play a key role in identifying and mitigating supply risks, improving supplier capability, and ensuring procurement activities meet the requirements of industry standards such as AS9100 and ISO 9001.

This is a highly collaborative role, partnering closely with engineering, operations, and finance to maintain production continuity, protect margins, and build strong, long-term supplier partnerships that support the continued growth of the business.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Procurement & Sourcing

* Lead sourcing activities for aerospace and energy programmes.
* Develop and execute sourcing strategies aligned with business objectives.
* Obtain and evaluate quotations (RFQs), ensuring technical and commercial compliance.
* Negotiate pricing, lead times, payment terms, and long-term agreements.
* Issue and manage purchase orders in line with MRP demand and project schedules.

Supplier Management

* Develop and manage strategic supplier relationships.
* Conduct supplier performance reviews (OTD, quality, cost, responsiveness).
* Support supplier audits and ensure compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
* Identify and onboard new suppliers to reduce risk and improve competitiveness.

Commercial & Cost Control

* Deliver annual cost reduction and cost avoidance targets.
* Perform should-cost analysis and benchmarking.
* Manage contract terms and conditions to minimise commercial risk.
* Monitor commodity trends and mitigate supply chain risks (capacity, obsolescence, geopolitical).

Compliance & Governance

* Ensure procurement processes comply with aerospace regulatory and customer requirements.
* Maintain full traceability and documentation control.
* Support internal and external audits.
* Adhere to export control sourcing requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

* Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Production, and Finance teams.
* Support new product introduction (NPI) and bid activities.
* Contribute to make vs buy decisions and supply chain strategy.

What you’ll bring:

* Proven experience in a Senior Buyer role within aerospace, defence, or energy sectors.
* Knowledge of technical drawings, specifications, and engineered components.
* Understanding of procuring complex machined/fabricated parts & electronic assemblies.
* Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
* Strong knowledge of MRP/ERP and continual development of systems to drive improved performance, a process led approach to working.
* Understanding of ISO9001 quality standards.
* Good commercial acumen and analytical capability.

It would be great if you also have:

* CIPS qualification (Level 4–6).
* Experience within an SME manufacturing environment.
* Understanding of aerospace quality standards (AS9100 environment).
* Knowledge of export control regulations (e.g., ITAR/EAR where applicable).
* Experience supporting regulated energy projects (oil & gas, renewables, nuclear).

About you

You’re an experienced procurement professional with a background in aerospace and/or energy manufacturing, comfortable working with engineered components and regulated supply chains environments.

You bring strong experience in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiation, and contract management, with the commercial insight to analyse cost structures, benchmark pricing, and deliver sustainable cost improvements in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment without compromising quality or delivery.

You’re confident using ERP/MRP systems and understand how accurate data supports effective procurement and production planning. You are comfortable managing demand signals, lead times, safety stock, and order policies to maintain supply continuity and support working capital targets.

Thriving in an SME environment, you are hands-on, proactive, and take ownership of procurement activities from sourcing through to delivery and supplier development. You build strong relationships across Engineering, Quality, Production, and Finance, supporting new product introduction, make-vs-buy decisions, and supply chain resilience.

You are commercially driven, collaborative, and results focused, with the ability to communicate clearly, manage competing priorities, and deliver improvements that strengthen supplier performance and support business growth.

We believe teamwork, no matter where you’re from or how you identify, we’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.

We’re looking for hardworking, passionate individuals to join our team. When you come on board, we’ll provide the support and opportunities you need to unlock your potential and do your best work.

We’re committed to ensuring an accessible and comfortable experience for everyone. If there’s anything we can do to make your application process or working environment more accommodating, please let us know—either in your application or by reaching out directly. We’ll be more than happy to help.
