We are looking for a Band 6 Paediatric Nurse who has the expertise, experience and passion to develop the service in conjunction with world renowned clinicians and senior nursing team.
Our paediatric haematology day unit at St Mary’s Hospital specialises in the care of children with Haemaglobinopathies, Oncological conditions, red cell disorders and bone marrow failure syndromes. Children who have undergone bone marrow transplant and gene therapy also regularly attend the unit for follow up and ongoing care.
We provide a comprehensive service for the management of children with sickle cell disease and thalassaemia, including a dedicated teenage and young adult transition service. We are the specialist Haemoglobinopathy centre in the Paediatric Imperial Red Cell Network, providing tertiary services to local patients and outreach services to Haemoglobinopathy patients at hospitals across North West London.
Main duties of the job
1. As a key member of a multi professional team, ensure appropriate referral and discussion with other members of the team to optimise patient care.
2. Ensure patients are assessed, have care plans that are implemented and evaluated in accordance with Trust’s evidence based procedural documents.
3. To have local open and transparent communication channels that support the ward team to do the right thing for people we care for, to be bold when they have good ideas and to speak up when things go wrong.
4. Act as a clinical expert within sphere of work.
5. Have continuous responsibility for the ward area, providing visible professional leadership and line management for a team of nursing and support staff.
6. Ensure staffing is in line with Trust policy.
7. Be responsible for the safety and cleanliness of the clinical environment.
8. Champion a culture of learning and quality improvement in the clinical area.

Education
Essential criteria
9. RSCN/RN (child)
10. Experience of supervision of junior staff, Mentorship in practice or equivalent
11. Excellent level of English language demonstrated through effective written and verbal communication skills

13. Minimum of 12 months experience at band 5 within the relevant speciality
