Job Description
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Expertise relating to control systems design and SCADA / telemetry systems would be beneficial.
Responsibilities
* Work within Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate to influence and shape how we deliver our service into the future.
* Provide technical engineering leadership and support to the whole organisation to meet objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and net zero carbon commitments.
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, electrical safety rules for our electrical systems and equipment, including HV and LV power systems and control systems within assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on our electrical systems and equipment.
* Hold a national incident response role, which may be within normal working hours or out of hours.
Qualifications & Experience
* Knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Knowledge of control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry / SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in development and delivery of safe systems of work, risk assessments, method statements.
* Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies and implementation, including FMEA, reliability systems and processes.
* Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.

Location & Working Arrangements
This is a hybrid role. A base location near the applicant’s home will be allocated. Some travel and overnights may be required. Incident management objectives will be part of the development plan. Professional training will be provided.
Professional Requirements
* UK driving licence.
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and registration as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of working toward registration within 12 months.
