Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse - Paediatric ED
We are seeking experienced, dynamic, energetic and committed nurses to become our next Band 6 Deputy Sisters for the Paediatric Emergency Department at St Peters.
St Peters hospitals provide high quality care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, staffed by paediatricians and paediatric nurses who work together to deliver patient and family focused nursing care.
Responsibilities
* Provide visible, credible clinical leadership for the nursing team in Paediatric ED shift by shift.
* Ensure nursing care delivered is high quality, research‑based and patient and family focused.
* Model supportive learning for junior team members and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
* Lead, manage and facilitate efficient use of allocated resources, ensuring smooth patient flow from ED to ward.
* Act as a role model in the clinical setting, advising and supporting the multidisciplinary team.
* Delegate, empower staff and support collaborative working across the department.
* Promote excellent communication within the department and multidisciplinary team.
* Deputise for the Paediatric ED Matron in their absence and meet regularly to discuss issues and developments.
* Participate in nursing research, clinical audit and Trust meetings and committees relevant to the service.
Qualifications and Experience
* Band 6 nursing band with experience as a Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse.
* Advanced clinical practice in paediatric emergency nursing.
* Strong leadership and management skills with a proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence‑based practice.
* Demonstrated ability to manage challenging clinical situations with focus on child and family needs.
* Experience facilitating learning for junior staff and mentoring clinical staff.
