Salary: £26,666.67 per annum, plus company benefits

Location: Leeds, LS10 1AB

Contract: Full Time, Permanent

Shifts: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7am until 4pm with 1 hours unpaid break

Work model: Hybrid

Williams Lea seeks a Proofreader to join our team!

Purpose of role

In the role of Proofreader the primary function will be to identify and correct spelling, grammar, and verbiage errors in complex legal documents. The ideal person will have excellent grammar and English skills, with experience as a Proofreader or a role that demonstrates these skills. The Proofreader is required to be self-motivated and to work as part of a team, with a strong grasp of editorial and grammatical principles. The position requires advanced software aptitude in those programmes used for document production, as well as speed and accuracy in a high-volume, high-pressure production environment.

Key responsibilities

1. Identify and correct spelling, grammar, and verbiage errors in complex legal documents.
2. Detect formatting and compositional errors in documents.
3. Check corrected proofs of legal documents against mark-up for comparison and quality assurance.
4. Undertake a high-quality proofreading and document checking service for legal and marketing collaterals including format checks, house and non-house style including defined terms checks
5. Complete sese, grammar and consistency read-throughs
6. Checking conversions – PDF to Word, OCR, copy-typing, PowerPoint and Creative Services requests for language and format issues
7. Assist the Document Services team with document production and preparation as needed.
8. Handle sensitive and/or confidential documents and information.
9. Communicate with manager and client on job or deadline issues.
10. Adhere to Williams Lea policy in addition to client site policy.
11. Perform other duties as assigned

Personal attributes

12. Experience in copy editing, proofreading and copywriting, preferably in a legal, banking or large corporate environment preferred
13. Experience working within a Law Firm or similar would be advantageous
14. Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills, with a sound knowledge of grammar and spelling
15. Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint desired
16. Knowledge of a legal timekeeping or job tracking system is preferred
17. Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment
18. Strong attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality
19. Ability to prioritize work to balance multiple projects and deadlines
20. Must have good organizational skills
21. Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential documents and information
22. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
23. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
24. Ability to communicate professionally both verbally and in writing
25. Must be self-motivated with a positive attitude
26. Proven customer service skills are required in order to create, maintain and enhance customer relationships
