Seat Systems Software Certification Engineer (Associate or Experienced level)
The Software Engineering and Systems Integration team in the UK works across Boeing Defence, Commercial Airplanes, Global services and Uncrewed technologies. The team develops Synthetic Environment Sub‑systems, Mission Systems Capability, Autonomous Behaviours, Ground Control System enhancements, Technical Publications and proprietary tools for Defence platforms, and contributes to Boeing Commercial Airplanes Seats Certification.
Role
Based in Bristol, UK, the Engineer will support the growing BCA Seats statement of work and certify airborne software components for safety compliance with EASA and/or FAA. The role involves certification against DO‑178B/C objectives, supplier coordination, documentation, audits and travel to suppliers and regulatory meetings.
Business Travel Requirement
Travel up to 25% of working time within the UK (Bristol, Fleet, Frimley) and internationally.
Position Responsibilities
* Review suppliers’ software lifecycle data (architecture, design, requirement, verification and validation documents) throughout the software lifecycle.
* Oversee supplier software development and lifecycle processes, perform audits/assessments and ensure deliverables meet Boeing standards and regulatory expectations.
* Verify and submit comprehensive technical documentation for certification and respond to technical inquiries and auditor requests.
* Collaborate with regulatory representatives, Boeing EUMs, suppliers and global sites to ensure compliance with safety standards and Boeing internal standards.
* Prepare and maintain certification packages and compliance documentation for certification authorities.
* Monitor project progress and performance, ensuring engineering solutions are delivered on time and meet safety and certification milestones.
* Develop, document and maintain architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems.
* Automate certification processes and provide subject‑matter expertise during reviews, design reviews and regulator meetings.
* Travel to supplier sites, test labs and regulatory sessions as needed.
Basic Qualifications (Required)
* Bachelor of Science degree or higher in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science or computer science.
* Ability to obtain security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
* Associate (Level2): 2+ years experience with avionics or embedded software development/verification and 2+ years applying DO‑178C/ED‑12C (or DO‑178B), familiarity with lifecycle data items and standards such as DO‑330, DO‑331.
* Experienced (Level3): 5+ years in avionics software development cycles, configuration management and agile practices; 5+ years applying DO‑178C/ED‑12C (or DO‑178B), experience with architectures, interfaces and designs; knowledge of DO‑254 (FPGA/ASIC) when seat controllers include custom hardware; strong background in real‑time embedded software, RTOS, device drivers and HW–SW integration for avionics ECUs; 5+ years leading software development projects; proficiency with version control tools (Git) and Agile planning tools (JIRA, GitLab).

Additional Information
