Join us as a Laboratory Scheduler and make an invaluable contribution to our Food Safety & Biosecurity! As a laboratory scheduler, you will be responsible for the planning and creation of analytical batches for extraction to meet defined deadlines and criteria. You will work closely with Fera’s residue sample preparation and LC-MS teams, giving guidance on daily work priorities and workload coming through the laboratory. Supported by team manager and delivery manager, you will work both with the team and independently to ensure customer deadlines and internal priorities are met. The role will be primarily office based though you may also be required to perform basic laboratory duties such as required. You will also adopt responsibilities to assist the team’s operations, quality and H&S systems as required. What you’ll be doing: Work with team and delivery managers to prioritise urgent and important customer workloads, progressing batches through the laboratory. Schedule daily workload/batches for a range of analytical methods and staff effectively, taking into account training status, equipment availability etc. Use of LIMS systems to compile daily batches and workload. Use of other IT systems for booking of analytical batches in for analysis. Effective use of Microsoft packages including OutLook and Teams for time efficient communication with senior staff and stakeholders. Time allowing, basic laboratory tasks to support the team’s delivery. Be aware of, follow & contribute to the appropriate quality assurance and safety procedures. Write and work from Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to defined quality standards, suggesting and implementing continuous improvement. What we’re looking for: Good IT skills and the ability to pick up the use of bespoke software e.g. LIMS, Q-Pulse and Microsoft packages; in particular Excel. Experience with Nautilus LIMS highly desirable. Experience working in a laboratory or in a scheduling role highly desirable. Good numeracy skills critical. Good organisational and time management skills, have the ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines. A methodical approach to work and meticulous attention to detail.
