Job overview

Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking a dynamic, motivated, and conscientious echocardiographer to join the echocardiography service at Barts Heart Centre.

Our department holds dual echocardiography accreditation with both the BSE and EACVI, providing an excellent environment for professional development. The ACHD service at Barts Heart Centre is a nationally recognised tertiary referral service providing specialist echocardiography for adults with congenital heart disease, within a highly specialised multidisciplinary team. Furthermore, there are opportunities to progress into further advanced specialist areas including stress echocardiography, physiologist-led clinics, cardio-oncology, and cardiomyopathy services.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be primarily based at the Barts Heart Centre, St Bartholomew’s Hospital, with rotational working across other Trust sites, including UCLH, and participation in the weekend working rota on a rotational basis. This role offers exposure to a diverse range of complex cardiac pathologies and challenging clinical scenarios within a specialist service.

Applicants must hold full British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) and/or European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) adult transthoracic accreditation (or international equivalent) and be working towards, or already hold, congenital echocardiography accreditation (BSE/EACVI).

The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic, forward-thinking individual who will contribute positively to the cardiac physiology team and echocardiography service. You will also be supported to develop leadership skills, including supervising and training staff and supporting senior colleagues.

That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

We strive to live by our WeCare values and are committed to promoting inclusion, where every staff member has a sense of belonging. We value our differences and fully advocate, cultivate and support an inclusive working environment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

For an informal discussion or to arrange a visit, please contact Rebecca Macrae on 0203 765 8970 or via email at .

Although this position is a 12 months fixed-term contract, the actual contract duration will be adjusted to account for the time taken to advertise the post, complete the hiring process, and finalise pre-employment checks. This means the contract will begin when the candidate starts the role and may be slightly shorter than 12 months.

Please note: When calculating the basic salary for sponsorship, HCAS (High-Cost Area Supplement) is not included for non-medical roles. This ensures fairness and consistency within our organization, as some of our sites fall under inner HCAS, while others are classified as outer HCAS.
