Job Title: Locum Consultant in Adult Spinal Surgery (full-time, NHS)
The appointee will provide advice and expertise across the full range of adult spinal disorders, both elective and emergency. The contract is full time (10 PAs).
In line with NHS Locum guidelines, the initial term is 6 months with a further 6 months available to make a total term of 12 months. The role is intended to ensure capacity to meet the needs of long-waiting patients. The Spinal Surgery department sits within the Specialist Directorate of RJAH.
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist advice and expertise across the full range of adult spinal disorders, both elective and emergency.
* Contribute to planning and development of the service; participate in directorate/departmental meetings; ensure effective and efficient use of resources under the appointee's control.
* Engage with a Lead Clinician and Service Manager as required.
* Support annual appraisal and revalidation processes for surgeons as part of departmental requirements.

Person specification
Essential – Professional training and qualifications
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Trauma and Orthopaedics or Neurosurgery via: CCT or CESR (CP); proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date within 6 months of interview; CESR or European Community Rights.
* FRCS (Tr&Orth) or equivalent.
Desirable – Qualifications
* PhD or MD.
Essential – Experience
* Complex spinal fellowship.
* Experience in all aspects of adult degenerative surgery.
Desirable – Experience
* Ability to perform and exposure to advanced surgical techniques related to adult spinal surgery.
* Spinal elective and on-call experience at Consultant level.
Clinical Audit
* Understanding of principles of audit.
Teaching
* Evidence of strong commitment to training and supporting junior colleagues.
* Desirable – Formal Teaching Qualification.
