Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) - Royal Borough of Greenwich

Salary: £215 Per Day
Hours: 35 Hours
Working Schedule: Monday to Friday
Contract Length: 7 Month
Location: The Woolwich Centre, Greenwich, SE186HQ

Job Details

The role of a LADO is a specialist one which stands alone in the local authority. As an authoritative professional, it is a role that may involve challenging senior managers and may require the LADO to use statutory powers to escalate to senior management within and outside the local authority

The LADO is a key leadership role within the Practice Improvement and Development Service, and LADOs are expected to demonstrate and provide leadership across the entire Children’s Services Department and externally to the wider multi agency partnership.

LADOs should be an authoritative professional with at least equivalent status to an experienced children’s social work team manager as stated in Statutory Guidance (IRO handbook)

To be responsible for:

Dealing with all referrals to the Local Authority concerning allegations about staff or volunteers with a varied caseload of looked after children and young people ensuring good practice in the delivery of a quality Service.

Leading on providing advice and consultation to all agencies within the local authority on matters related to safeguarding children ensuring that they play a full role in their inter-agency responsibility.

Leading on providing quality assurance and improvement challenge that enables children’s social care teams and partner agencies to improve the quality and effectiveness of their practice including direct work with children and young people

The post holder has a major responsibility for monitoring and evaluating service practice and provision. Acting as a key player in the planning, coordinating and reviewing of the impact of services to safeguard and promote the welfare of children including children at risk of significant harm and children in the local authority’s care.

To place children and their needs at the heart of the work, managing risk for all children to include those in the child protection arena as well as children in our care and promoting the effective engagement of professionals in ensuring that children and young people are safeguarded

The post holder has no line management responsibility; however, will be required to provide consultation to Team Leaders and social workers and external parties and agencies relating to the safeguarding of children and on matters relating to allegations against staff or volunteers working with children, challenge the practice of managers on higher pay scales including senior managers and have experience of delivering supervision or experience of providing social work supervision and support.

To lead on specific projects and deliver training for the improvement of childcare practice and support CYPS annual service plan.
