Overview
We are seeking a multi-skilled Maintenance Technician ideally with experience in plumbing, to join our team at Barley Chalu. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of all equipment, machinery, and facilities within the production environment. The description below is the ideal but someone with general maintenance experience could be considered for a more junior role within this department.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including inspecting, cleaning, lubricating, and repairing machinery and equipment used in our processes.
* Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions to minimize downtime.
* Perform preventive maintenance activities according to established schedules to prevent equipment failures and ensure optimal performance.
* Coordinate with production supervisors and other team members to prioritize maintenance tasks and minimize disruptions to production schedules.
* Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, including maintenance logs, work orders, and equipment repair histories.
* Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities for improvement to enhance efficiency, reliability, and safety.
* Assist in the installation, commissioning, and testing of new equipment and machinery as needed.
* Adhere to safety protocols and procedures at all times to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and others.
* Maintain inventory of spare parts and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels to support maintenance activities.
* Collaborate with external contractors and vendors as necessary for specialized maintenance and repair tasks.
Ideal qualifications (not essential)
* High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or vocational training in mechanical, industrial plumbing, gas or heating engineering, or industrial maintenance preferred.
* Qualified or certified to a nationally recognized standard in plumbing or mechanical discipline such as City & Guilds 6035 Level 2 or 3 or similar.
* Proven experience as a maintenance technician in an industrial setting, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
* Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
* Familiarity with various types of machinery and equipment used in pretreatment and powder coating processes, including pumps, compressors, ovens, and conveyor systems.
* Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to industrial maintenance activities.
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
* Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, or overtime hours as needed to support production schedules and emergency repairs.
* Attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship in all maintenance tasks.
* Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks that may require lifting, bending, stooping, and working in confined spaces.
* Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing maintenance issues before they escalate.
Overtime paid during evenings or at weekends.
Basic hours of work: 06:00 to 14:00, Monday to Friday + O/TIME or weekend days as required.
Hours: Average hours - 40-45 HOURS PER WEEK
Salary: Range is dependent on experience.
