Senior Network Engineer – BT Group, Glasgow, Scotland
Why this role matters
As a Senior Network Engineer, you’ll be instrumental in supporting the client enterprise and Data Centre network infrastructure. This role ensures secure, efficient, and resilient connectivity across the organisation, enabling colleagues and customers to stay connected.
You’ll help drive the transformation of legacy systems into modern platforms, working closely with internal teams and external partners to deliver scalable, high‑performing network and voice solutions.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Resolve incidents, problems, and service requests via the IT Service Desk.
* Manage lifecycle activities for network devices, including upgrades and capacity planning.
* Contribute to technical solution designs and decision‑making processes.
* Collaborate with project teams, engineers, and third‑party vendors (BT, Vodafone, Cisco).
* Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance performance and reduce risk.
* Work out‑of‑hours on changes as and when required.
The skills you’ll need
* Strong expertise in Cisco networking, including ACI and routing protocols (OSPF, BGP).
* CCNP Routing & Switching certification or equivalent experience.
* Proficiency in TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, VPN, and wireless technologies.
* An understanding of how firewalls work at a generic level.
* Knowledge of server hardware and Microsoft Windows Server.
* Knowledge of datacentre environments including cabling and patching.
* Knowledge of network monitoring tools and ServiceNow.
* Strong communication and collaboration skills.
