This is an exciting opportunity for a driven and technically skilled individual to play a key role in delivering critical engineering projects, driving continuous improvement, and supporting automation and control initiatives within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
The Role
As the
Control System Engineer
, you will work closely with the Principal Engineer, maintenance, and production teams to deliver a wide range of engineering projects, from process improvements to major capital installations. You'll take ownership of projects from concept through to commissioning, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
This role will also see you providing vital technical support to maintenance teams, identifying opportunities to reduce downtime, improve plant performance, and enhance reliability across site operations.
Key responsibilities include:
* Coordinate and manage assigned engineering projects from specification to commissioning
* Ensure all work complies with relevant technical, health & safety, and environmental standards
* Support and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and performance
* Work collaboratively with production and maintenance teams to deliver operational excellence
* Manage and coordinate contractors, ensuring all safety and quality standards are met
* Provide automation and control systems support, assisting in root cause analysis and technical troubleshooting
* Deliver training and support to site teams, sharing best practice and technical knowledge
* Maintain accurate project and maintenance records using the site CMMS
* Drive improvements in manufacturing processes, equipment performance, and energy efficiency
This position is project-focused (approx. 90%), with the remainder supporting maintenance and small improvement activities.
About You
You'll be a proactive and technically capable engineer with a strong background in electrical and control systems, ideally within a manufacturing or production environment. You'll thrive on problem-solving, enjoy working on varied projects, and take pride in delivering practical solutions that make a measurable difference.
Essential skills and experience:
* HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Electrical, Electronics, or Control Engineering
* Proven experience in PLC programming and fault-finding (Allen Bradley Studio 5000, Mitsubishi GX Works)
* Hands-on experience with SCADA systems and HMI programming
* Solid understanding of automation, instrumentation (e.g. 4-20mA signals), and control system design
* Good working knowledge of MS Office, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks
* Experience designing and specifying PLC-based electrical control systems
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
* Excellent organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Desirable:
* Background in medium to heavy manufacturing
* Experience working to quality standards such as ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001
