Overview
Bibliographical Services is vital to the function of the library service. In this office-based position you will play a key role in a small team responsible for handling the acquisition of library stock. This includes placing orders, payment of invoices, importing catalogue records and processing of library books and other items. Stock and catalogue queries may come from colleagues in branch libraries across the borough and the team also deal with requests for unstocked items using the Inter Library Loans system.
Responsibilities
* Supervise the work of the library assistant and deputise in the absence of the Reading Resources Librarian.
* Supervise the building when required; note there may be periods of lone working in the building at certain times of the day.
* Manage stock acquisition tasks: placing orders, processing payments of invoices, importing catalogue records and processing of library books and other items.
* Handle stock and catalogue queries from colleagues in branch libraries and respond to requests for unstocked items via the Inter Library Loans system.
Qualifications
* Attention to detail and an inquisitive mind.
* Confident user of IT systems and databases; knowledge of electronic processes is essential.
* Training will be provided on the Library Management System, but it is essential to have excellent IT skills and knowledge of electronic processes.
* Enthusiastic, flexible, with an interest in books and good communication skills.
