An opportunity has arisen to work within the Haemato-Oncology Unit as a Research Nurse supporting our complex research portfolio during a 12-month maternity cover.
This pivotal role involves being part of a multidisciplinary team, including experienced medical and research staff, participating in a variety of clinical research studies. Ideally, candidates will have previous clinical research experience and will work within the guidelines and policies for conducting clinical trials, ensuring high standards of practice in accordance with GCP principles.
The research nurse operates as a self-directed practitioner, playing a key role in organizing and managing clinical trials within the Trust. These trials may relate to anti-cancer treatments (e.g., chemotherapy, radiotherapy, biological therapy, gene therapy, or surgery), symptom management, or other aspects of cancer care, such as screening. Central responsibilities include recruiting, educating, and monitoring patients entering clinical trials. The post holder will collaborate closely with the principal investigator and multidisciplinary team to support patients in participating in trials by providing advice, information, and acting as their advocate. They will also coordinate and manage a clinical research portfolio, ensuring ongoing care and support for trial participants.
Support and mentorship of junior research nurses, including education and training to develop their research skills, will be part of the role. Additional responsibilities include monitoring and improving nursing input standards within the team. The post also encourages undertaking personal research projects or further study, in consultation with the lead medical investigator and Lead Nurse Clinical Trials.
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated practitioner with the ability to inspire others. Flexibility, teamwork, and independence are essential. Excellent communication, administrative, and IT skills are required, along with an openness to new initiatives.
