Housing register officer

Horncastle
South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership
€60,000 - €80,000 a year
Posted: 20 June
Offer description

A rewarding opportunity has become available within the Housing Register team on a temporary basis as a Housing Register Officerat East Lindsey District Council.

Every day is different – you will never be bored. You will be part of a small team across two Councils who manage applications for social housing (housing register) and the advertisement of vacant social homes (allocations).

Rehousing is rarely the only issue, and your team would need to provide advice or signpost and refer applicants to other services such as debt advice, substance misuse and housing standards. You will often identify safeguarding concerns which will require an appropriate response. The Councils receive over one hundred applications each week and the team assess whether each applicant meets the criteria to join the register and for those that do, award an appropriate level of priority to the application as per the housing allocation scheme.

Some applicants might struggle to make an application and will require advice and support which could be over the telephone, in their home or at a housing surgery. Your team advertise social homes on behalf of housing associations, enabling housing applicants to express an interest in suitable properties. The verified shortlist of applicants would then be provided to the housing associations who would offer the property to the suitable applicant.

To be successful in this role you need to be able to cope with conflicting demands and able to calmly and empathetically respond to customers who require social housing. This would include people who are at risk of homelessness, vulnerable, suffering from abuse or living in unsuitable accommodation so great communication skills are key.

We are looking for a personable individual with excellent communication skills who can engage with a diverse range of audiences. The ideal candidate will thrive both independently and within a team environment. Previous experience working with vulnerable people is an advantage.

There will be a requirement to travel across the district for home visits, attendance in the office for meetings on the occasion etc so you will be required to organise travel when required.

If you are passionate about making a difference, have strong interpersonal skills, and can work autonomously as well as collaboratively, we encourage you to apply.

This position is a shared role within the South and East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership (SELCP) and forms part of the S113 agreement between the participating partnership Councils in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement 1stOctober 2021.
