Role: Lecturer – Mechanical Engineering
Location: Central Bedfordshire College – Dunstable – The Incuba
Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £31,930 and £36,878 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications, 45 days annual leave (Pro-Rata) plus Bank holidays, Teacher’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.
Hours/Weeks: 22 hours per week – 52 weeks per year
Contract Type: Permanent – Part Time

About The Role
We are currently seeking a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering to join our Engineering department at The Bedford College Group.
As a Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
* Engaging & Practical Teaching – Deliver up-to-date, stimulating sessions that connect life skills and plumbing theory to real-world applications, supporting student success and progression.
* Curriculum Planning & Assessment – Design schemes of work and lesson plans, assess learner progress using approved criteria, and maintain accurate records to meet internal and external standards.
* Classroom & Learner Management – Create a safe, inclusive learning environment, manage behaviour effectively, and tailor activities to meet diverse learner needs and maximise engagement.
* Professional Collaboration & Development – Work with colleagues, employers, and external bodies to enhance vocational opportunities, contribute to course development, and stay current through CPD.
* Statutory & College-Wide Duties – Uphold safeguarding, EDI, and health and safety policies; participate in marketing events; and maintain professionalism in all aspects of college representation.
About You
* Qualifications & Industry Experience – Holds Level 2 maths and English, Level 3 in a relevant subject, and has experience in milling and turning within the industry, with a commitment to maintaining vocational skills and working towards an Assessor Award.
* Teaching & Technical Expertise – Experienced in delivering training across vocational areas and learner levels, using varied teaching approaches and up-to-date knowledge of technology and quality assurance systems.
* Professional Skills & Attributes – Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills; able to motivate learners, manage time effectively, and work well within a team.
* Commitment to Development & Safety – Dedicated to continuous professional development, reflective practice, and applying health and safety knowledge in all aspects of the role.
* Safeguarding & Flexibility – Understands safeguarding responsibilities, maintains appropriate boundaries with learners, and is willing to work flexibly across all Bedford College locations.
