Job Summary
Are you an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Clinical Pharmacist looking to work within a Major Trauma Centre offering tertiary services across a wide range of surgical specialties? Would you like to be an integral member of a respected multidisciplinary team, working towards consultant-level credentialing in a surgical specialty, while utilising your skills as a non-medical prescriber in both inpatient and outpatient settings? This post attracts a Recruitment & Retention Premia (RRP) totaling £5,000 payable on appointment (covering 36 months of service) in addition to a relocation allowance (subject to eligibility). RRP is for external candidates only and pro rata for part-time employees. Further information on the RRP and Relocation Allowance is available on request.
Responsibilities
* Provide a high-quality, patient-focused clinical pharmacy service for patients within the Surgery Care Group; deploy pharmacy staff effectively to support patient safety, flow, medicines reconciliations and discharges.
* Act as an advanced specialist pharmacist for the Surgery Care Group in your area of practice; lead and develop the pharmacy service for the Surgery Care Group and associated surgical areas.
* Lead teaching and clinical supervision of pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals; promote safe medicine use across the Care Group.
* Collaborate with associate chief pharmacist clinical services to define roles for non-medical prescribers and advanced clinical practitioners; work towards consultant pharmacist credentialing in a surgical specialty.
* Develop and manage delivery of pharmacy services, monitor drug expenditure, and deliver financial savings; contribute to budget planning and resource use.
* Lead on implementation of NHSE commissioning decisions related to new technologies; produce protocols and guidelines to ensure safe prescribing.
* Participate in ward rounds, outpatient clinics and MDTs; review prescriptions, challenge treatment choices and communicate complex drug information to clinicians, managers, patients and carers.
* Utilise non-medical prescribing and advanced practice skills across the care group; monitor and report medicines-related incidents; coordinate advanced specialist pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
* Provide education and training to healthcare professionals and students; act as a role model for the clinical pharmacy team.
* Practice as a Pharmacist Prescriber/advanced practitioner within the Surgery Care group; engage in Quality Improvement and practice research; update clinical pharmacy policy and guidelines; monitor and evaluate medicines protocols across the group.
Participation in broader departmental rotas may be required.
Qualifications
* Essential: Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in Pharmacy; current General Pharmaceutical Council registration; Postgraduate Diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent; Non-medical prescriber (or willingness to undertake).
* Desirable: Royal Pharmaceutical Society registration; UKCPA involvement; postgraduate leadership or specialty qualifications.
Knowledge & Experience
* Extensive knowledge of clinical pharmacy and drug use across multiple surgical specialties; experience in inpatient and outpatient pharmaceutical care.
* Senior pharmacy management experience with strong leadership, communication, negotiation and influencing skills; understanding of NHS priorities and clinical governance.
* Experience in policy and guideline development, teaching and supervision, audit/research, and multidisciplinary working.
Aptitude & Abilities
* Good written and verbal communication; time management and organizational skills.
