Role Purpose Vice President-Secured Acquisition Risk Management is responsible for the management of pre-acquisition and post-acquisition activities for Current and Impaired Mortgage Assets in order to achieve the credit risk appetite and enable business growth. The most significant need that the incumbent has to fulfill is to manage front-end risk effectively while attracting and retaining profitable customers. The incumbent will assist in integrating discussions and action plans on the larger objectives of Acquisition Risk Management with Regional Risk, Product, Finance, Operations and Collection Teams. The Team activities will include portfolio analysis and recommendations to both eliminate unwanted risks and drive portfolio growth in support of asset optimization and maximization of risk adjusted revenue. The incumbent will assist in builder and project approval related activities. In addition, the role will need to assist in any Priority Sector Lending related deliverables from WPB Risk. Principal Accountabilities: Key activities and decision making areas Impact on the Business / Function Designing, modifying, implementing all credit policies including policies for acquisition, collateral management, developer approvals etc. Monitor sourcing mix and portfolio performance across programs, channels and segments in order to optimize enablement and protection initiatives. Support strategic initiatives like credit bureau integration, digital initiatives etc. for operational efficiencies. Manage Builder and Project approval and monitoring related initiatives. Manage all Priority Sector Lending related deliverables from WPB Risk perspective. Typical Targets and Measures Acceptable SLAs for business proposals Periodic competitor policy scan Builder dashboard to comprehensively manage under-construction segment risk. Annual RRP reviews Customers / Stakeholders Assist in policy decisions and discussions on policy/portfolio related issues with Local WPB and Regional WPB Risk. Be the one-point contact for all policy clarifications. Manage Builder and Project approval related initiatives. Partner with Collections strategy team in improvising existing collection strategies. Typical Targets and Measures Early MOB delinquency targets B&D targets Effective monitoring of under-construction segment Leadership & Teamwork Working closely with other internal WPB and Risk units to modify credit policies including policies for acquisition, collateral management, developer approvals etc. Connect with DSS teams to build automated credit tools to enable apt implementation of acquisition strategies Work closely with the credit underwriting / Operations team to ensure the right controls during implementing acquisition policies. Stay abreast with developments in real estate market and peer banks. Typical Targets and Measures Improvement in process efficiencies – benefits in TAT and reduction in input errors. Periodic real estate reviews Operational Effectiveness & Control Ensure all processes are continuously monitored and built in a manner such that sufficient mitigants are in place to protect against channel, collateral, operational and fraud risks and further comply with HSBC policy and procedures, together with early identification and effective resolution or escalation of issues that arise. Work closely with Internal Controls teams to ensure that implementation of policies is appropriate. No established property price indices etc. Challenge to recommend amendments to credit policy which may make them subjective / localized while at the same time ensuring that the overall credit policy is objective and easy to implement. Monitoring adherence of business to the credit policy is an important dimension of the jobholder's responsibility. Ambitious growth plans coupled with the current economic environment, will require the incumbent to achieve the fine balance between business developments while maintaining risk levels of the portfolio at acceptable levels. Role Context The mandate will be to build, improve and transform the way we acquire customers, market products & services, automate acquisition platforms, reduce risk at acquisition stage and increase portfolio profitability. The strategic directive that the incumbent has to deliver will be to build, automate and improvise the complex decision processes involved in the customer acquisition stage. Efficient deployment of risk tools to provide innovative solutions focused on profitable acquisition is a key deliverable of this role. Further lending sufficient strategic direction to the effort to grow the business in customer segments which are low risk and at the same time work with debt management teams to improve capability and achieve the LIC plans Guidance & authority The incumbent has the authority to take decision on credit Policy and related processes for Mortgage product, while balancing risk and growth objectives. In order to ensure that the Group’s lending norms are adhered to at all times, the jobholder will be guided by the area lending guidelines such as RRP, RG, FIM, Group Audit recommendations and local regulatory norms. The incumbent will draw guidance from SVP – Secured Lending Risk, Head – WPB Risk, India and ASP WPB Risk on matters related to policy Management of Risk Adheres to processes and controls to identify and mitigate risks and ensures timely escalation of control issues and reputation risks. Demonstrates leadership on regulatory and compliance matters. Maintains awareness of risk and minimizes the likelihood of it occurring through its identification, assessment, mitigation and control. Observation of Internal Controls Maintains HSBC internal control standards and addresses audit points and/or any issues raised by regulators in a timely manner. Fosters a compliance culture within the team, managing compliance risk and ensuring that the necessary training is completed. Optimizes relations with regulators. Maintain and observe HSBC internal control standards, implement and observe Group Compliance Policy, including the timely implementation of recommendations made by internal/external auditors and external regulators. Foster a compliance culture and implement Group Compliance Policy by managing compliance risk in liaison with the Head of Group Compliance, Regional Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer, ensuring adequate compliance resources are in place and training is provided, and optimizing relations with regulators Role Dimensions The incumbent will be responsible to assist the functions of business growth and risk management. Highlighting new areas for business expansion in terms of new product variants, markets, segments etc. would be as essential as early warning on risky segments and fraud prone areas.
