Overview

We are looking to recruit a permanent, part‑time (20 hours per week) Nursery Nurse to join the team at Tir Na Nog. The role will support children from birth to five years, working as part of a key worker team.


Responsibilities

* Contribute to a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children.
* Support other personnel within the day‑care centre.
* Implement the daily routine appropriate to the room (e.g., the baby room).
* Operate a programme of activities suitable to the age range in conjunction with other staff.
* Support all staff and engage in a good staff team.
* Work with parents/carers of special needs children to give full integration in the setting.
* Keep a proper record of achievement files for key children for parents/carers.
* Liaise and support parents/carers and other family members.
* Be involved with activities in and out of working hours (training, monthly staff meetings, fundraising, etc.).
* Be flexible within working practices of the setting.
* Help where needed, including undertaking certain domestic jobs within the setting.
* Work alongside the manager and staff team to ensure that the philosophy behind the project is fulfilled.
* Record accidents in the accident book, ensuring the manager initialises the report before the parent receives it.
* Consider the setting as a whole and use your help where it can be most utilised.
* Always be aware of the needs of the children to ensure every child is collected by someone known to the setting.
* Respect the confidentiality of information received.
* Develop your role within the team, especially with regard to the key worker position.
* Prepare and complete activities to suit the child’s stage of development.
* Ensure that mealtimes are a time of pleasant social sharing.
* Ensure washing and changing of children as required.
* Provide comfort and warmth to an ill child.
* Ensure the setting is of a high‑quality environment to meet the needs of children from differing cultures, religious backgrounds and developmental stages.
* Actively promote and support the safeguarding of children and young people, ensuring that the setting’s policies and procedures are observed at all times.


Person Specification


Essential

* Qualifications/Training: Level 2 in childcare qualification, willing to work towards Level 3.
* Experience/Knowledge: Previous experience caring for or working with children ages birth to five years in a voluntary or paid capacity.
* Knowledge of the national standards for the regulation of childcare provision.
* Awareness of health and safety and food hygiene importance.
* Good organisational record and planning skills.
* Good communication skills with children, colleagues, advisors and parents/carers.
* Patience, empathy with children and adults.
* Positive approach to inclusive practice with children and colleagues.
* Enthusiasm for working with young children.
* Positive approach to learning and gaining new skills through teamwork and training opportunities.
* Commitment to the provision of high‑quality childcare.
* Ability to speak Welsh confidently to carry out certain tasks.
* Subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check.


Desirable

* Safeguarding certificate.
* First aid certificate.
* Food hygiene certificate.
* Understanding of the foundation phase curriculum.
* Interest in the care, learning and development of young children.
* Able to work in small teams.
