Senior Design Engineer

A Senior Design Engineer plays a key role in leading the design and development of new products, while ensuring long-term product safety, quality, and reliability. This role also focuses on enhancing existing designs and equipment to improve efficiency and maintain Styne's competitive advantage..
Key outcomes and responsibilities:
Design Leadership
* Lead the research, development, and modelling of new product concepts, ensuring innovation, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with safety standards.
* Guide the continuous improvement and optimisation of existing designs to meet evolving customer needs and industry trends.
* Oversee the customization of designs to meet specific client requirements, ensuring satisfaction while maintaining technical and commercial feasibility.
* Conduct, review, and oversee the testing and validation of both new and existing designs, making data-driven modifications where required.
* Utilise 3D CAD and other relevant tools to develop high-quality models and visual prototypes, supporting in-depth analysis and evaluation.
* Approve and review technical reports and documentation for internal use and for client communication, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
* Provide expert-level support on customer design queries, producing technical drawings and offering alternative solutions where necessary.
* Engage with customers directly to ensure design requirements are met, collecting and analysing feedback to refine solutions.
* Lead the development of detailed specifications and BOMs (Bill of Materials), ensuring efficiency and accuracy in manufacturing processes.
* Act as the primary liaison between design and other internal departments, fostering collaboration and effective information flow.
Project Management
* Take ownership of engineering deliverables in projects, ensuring design objectives align with broader project goals and timelines.
* Communicate project progress and key milestones to the Design Manager, identifying risks or issues proactively.
* Ensure thorough documentation is created and maintained throughout the design lifecycle, including technical files, correspondence, and revision history.
* Promote and maintain structured collaboration across departments to support successful project execution and knowledge sharing.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (Master's preferred).
* Significant experience in a design engineering role, ideally within a manufacturing or product development environment.
* Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software and design for manufacture principles.
* Demonstrated ability to manage and develop junior team members.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented approach.
* Excellent communication skills for internal and external collaboration.
* Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
* Continuous improvement mindset and drive for innovation.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £40,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
