The post holder will have clinical responsibility for the Specialist Paediatric and Adult Refraction Clinics. To be an autonomous practitioner providing highly skilled and specialised HES Optometry Services to George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton (GEH). To work closely with the Ophthalmology Management to deliver a comprehensive range of specialist optometry services to the highest standards of quality and patient care.
Responsibilities include:
1. Undertaking the full range of Optometry Services as required, providing expert treatment and advice.
2. Assessing, examining, investigating, diagnosing, and treating patients to ensure safe management, and autonomously formulating management plans.
3. Demonstrating a clear understanding of personal responsibility, autonomy, and professional scope, especially when working with complex, risky, or uncertain cases.
4. Prescribing and reviewing medication as an independent prescriber, ensuring therapeutic effectiveness aligned with patient needs, evidence-based practice, and protocols within legal scope.
5. Ordering and interpreting diagnostic investigations (e.g., blood tests, ocular swabs, MRI) to inform treatment decisions.
6. Developing virtual clinics within an advanced sub-specialty role, adapting to service demands and expanding clinical skills.
7. Working under significant pressure with high levels of concentration, often with interruptions requiring advice from clinical staff.
8. Supporting consultants during surgery by conducting slit lamp examinations and maintaining up-to-date patient histories.
