We have a fantastic opportunity for you to join our Clinical Nurse Specialist team, supporting the Acute Oncology and Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) Service at UHCW NHS Trust. The successful postholder will work 22.5 hours per week in Acute Oncology and 15 hours per week in TYA. Acute Oncology: The team is pivotal in providing early input of specialist oncology assessment, advice and clinical management for unscheduled oncology emergency admissions with regard to complications related to non-surgical cancer treatment, complications of cancer or suspected unknown primary cancer. TYA: The TYA CNS will work closely with the Clinical Lead for TYA, site‑specific multidisciplinary Teams, and the TYA Principal Treatment Centre (PTC), University Hospital Birmingham. Candidates should be able to demonstrate experience of working with young people with a cancer diagnosis, experience of malignant haematology and / or oncology. The role will be to provide support and advice for patients aged 13‑25 years old and work alongside site specific oncology and haematology teams. We are looking for an inspirational and forward‑thinking nurse. You must have extensive oncology/chemotherapy/haematology experience and be able to provide sound clinical decision‑making skills. This role will involve weekend and bank holiday working. Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
Responsibilities
* Ensure timely, effective, and improved care for patients with complications of non‑surgical cancer treatment (early recognition, better treatment, early nurse‐led discharge and reduce length of stay).
* Ensure timely, effective and improved care of patients with complications of cancer (early recognition, better treatment, rapid referral back to specialist oncology team, palliative care team etc).
* To ensure proactive delivery of preventative care to minimise the risks of the effects of non‑surgical cancer treatment.
* The post holder will work alongside other clinical colleagues in oncology, haematology, palliative care, emergency care, acute medicine, radiology, and pathology to ensure quality of care to the patients is maximised. This will include the development of clinical guidelines and education programmes.
TYA Responsibilities
* The post holder will be a designated TYA CNS within the hospital and will provide expert specialist advice to patients, relatives, carers and other HCPs.
* To be an active member of the appropriate site‑specific MDTs, including participation in the PTC MDT meetings, ensuring that all TYA's are referred to the MDT.
* Work closely with the PTC TYA to ensure alignment of goals and priorities between national and local modernisation initiatives and ensure support and transition from children services to TYA and then to adult services.
