Teaching Assistant Location: York, North Yorkshire Contract: Full-time / Term-time only Start Date: As soon as possible GSL Education is working in partnership with a specialist school setting for children and young people aged 5–16 whose primary need is Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH). We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils who may find mainstream education challenging, helping them to achieve their potential both academically and personally. About the Role as Teaching Assistant: Provide classroom support to teachers, ensuring all pupils are engaged and able to access learning. Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions to support pupils with SEMH and additional learning needs. Use positive behaviour management strategies to support pupils through times of dysregulation and crisis. Foster trusting relationships with students, encouraging confidence, resilience, and independence. Assist in creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that reflects the ethos of Danesgate Community School. The Successful Teaching Assistant Will Have: A genuine passion for working with children and young people with SEMH needs. Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with pupils and staff. Experience in supporting children with additional needs is desirable, but full training will be provided. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
