Overview Of Project/role
The Operations Engineer is a member of the LU Asset Control Centre team based at Palestra in the London Underground Control Centre, providing support to the Network Operations Engineer (NOE) and Senior Operating Officer (SOO) to ensure the safe and effective management of asset-related incidents that impact on the London Underground (LU) network.

LU Asset Control Centre team is responsible for the proactive and reactive management of all asset incidents, failures, issues and any other asset related matters to assure the availability and performance of all LU network assets to meet customer demand.

This role is part of a team with rotating shifts providing 24/7 coverage 365 days a year.

Key Accountabilities

* Manage and coordinate the engineering response to Category 1 and 2 asset incidents, and other asset failures, including liaising with the LU Asset teams, call out of contractors, monitoring progress, ensuring grip is maintained by key parties throughout service affecting incidents and escalating to the NOE where appropriate.
* Provide the SOO with the relevant technical expertise and advice in order to make effective strategic network decisions in the event of an asset failure or incident and enable them to balance engineering vs operational priorities.
* Responsible for undertaking site-based visits as the representative of Asset Control Centre. Acting where required as engineering co-ordinator on site to support operational incidents, issues, risks, investigations, fault rectification, and planned works.
* Manage (or support as appropriate) general and emergency access enquiries and requests across LU and partner infrastructure e.g. Station, Track, Possessions, Specified Areas.
* Manage and coordinate implementation of adverse weather processes, ensuring weather preparedness, response and recovery where disruption to operations or infrastructure arises.
* Work closely with the Engineering Works Manager and possession teams to support the successful completion of minor or major works, provide on-site support and resources as required.
* Manage the emergency Remote Fire Isolations process.
* Ensure the relevant Rule Books, procedures and plans are adhered to.
* Maintain an oversight of the Control Centre Operators providing technical advice to support in the management and resolution of faults across the network, escalating to the NOE as appropriate.
* Building capability within the team by providing in depth on shift training to both new starters and colleagues to meet business and operational needs.
* Cover and deputise for the NOE with minimal supervision and guidance.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Planning and prioritisation
* Ability to understand detailed technical drawings
* Full UK driving license (desirable)

Knowledge

* HNC / HND / Degree level qualification in an engineering discipline e.g. Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering (desirable).
* Working knowledge & experience of LU infrastructure and its integration. (desirable).
* Geographical and operational understanding of the LU network (desirable).
* Knowledge of engineering standards, Rule Books and their supplements (desirable).
* Knowledge of LU Rolling Stock and Engineering Vehicles. (desirable).
* Understanding the relationships between Assets & Operations infrastructure, people, & how they work together (desirable).
* Knowledge of asset management tools and systems such as Maximo Asset Management System, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and RailSys operational planning system (desirable).

Experience

* Engineering / technical experience of working in an operational railway environment or similar industry (essential).
* Practical experience working in an asset management role (desirable)
* A track record of consistency in performing under pressure to meet tight deadlines (essential).
* Stakeholder management of internal / external partners, contractors, and sub-contractors (desirable).
