We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive senior workshop technician to join our dynamic technical operations team, which strives to provide a sector leading technical support for FSE and the wider University. With a commitment to customer service excellence and a passion for science and engineering, senior workshop technicians will provide an agile technical support service to staff and students to support teaching, research and professional services. FSE’s research and teaching quality is recognised globally; this is an exciting opportunity to join us in Manchester and contribute to the provision of a sector leading technical service. This post is part of the workshop’s teaching and services team, providing technical support for a range of activities and will involve working across several areas, as directed by the technical manager
* You will demonstrate workshop process such as turning, milling, drilling and using hand tools in undergraduate workshop practice and other practical classes.
* You will provide practical support in the Makerspace, maintaining equipment, assisting users with projects, ensuring a safe environment, guiding users in using tools and materials effectively, and fulfilling any quick job requests.
* The post will be involved in the repair and service of various lab equipment, such as vacuum pumps, either in the workshop or within laboratories, using mechanical techniques and simple electrical fault finding.
