The position works Monday‑Friday or Sunday‑Thursday, with day shift pattern and hours to be discussed at interview.
Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated HGV Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge and experience in equipment repair, with a focus on trailers. This role requires a hands‑on approach to diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and ensuring that all trailers are in optimal working condition. Successful applicants will be adept at using a variety of tools and equipment while maintaining a high standard of customer service.
Responsibilities
* Provide technical knowledge, advice, and skill to other team members, ensuring the best decisions are made.
* Carry out weekly inspections of vehicles.
* Travel around local sites.
* Carry out preventative planned maintenance and repairs.
* Diagnose and repair trailers dealing with mechanical breakdowns and damage to restore vehicles to required performance, minimizing or avoiding unnecessary delays.
* Perform call‑outs as required.
* Carry out all other duties as directed by the company.
* Maintain availability to cover call‑outs.
* Read and interpret schematics to troubleshoot issues effectively.
* Use hand tools and power tools to perform repairs and maintenance tasks.
* Weld components as necessary to ensure structural integrity.
* Assemble parts and systems according to specifications.
* Operate forklifts safely to move trailers and equipment within the workshop.
* Maintain a clean and organised work area, adhering to safety protocols at all times.
* Provide exceptional customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding their trailer needs.
Experience
* Proven experience in mechanical repair, preferably with trailers or similar equipment.
* Strong understanding of electrical systems related to trailer functionality.
* Familiarity with using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.
* Experience operating forklifts is advantageous but not essential; training may be provided.
* Excellent problem‑solving skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
* Strong communication skills, demonstrating an ability to provide quality customer service.
