Overview
Anderson Knight Recruitment is working with a well-established construction business based in Ayr to recruit an experienced Bookkeeper for their team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with solid bookkeeping experience who enjoys working in a hands‑on role, supporting a busy finance function within a growing construction company. The role will involve managing day‑to‑day financial records, ensuring compliance with construction‑specific regulations, and supporting the wider finance team with reporting and client‑related tasks.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintaining accurate financial records for the business
* Processing purchase and sales invoices, bank transactions, and journals
* Completing regular bank and balance sheet reconciliations
* Preparing and submitting VAT and Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) returns
* Managing accounts payable and receivable activities, including subcontractor payments
* Supporting month‑end management accounts and year‑end reporting
* Liaising with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to resolve queries
* Using cloud‑based accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage
* Assisting with general finance queries and ad hoc reporting as required
Requirements
* Previous bookkeeping experience, ideally within construction or similar sectors
* Good working knowledge of Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or equivalent systems
* Understanding of VAT, CIS, and reconciliations
* Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational skills
* Confident communication skills, both written and verbal
* Ability to manage workload, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines
