The Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust (WAST) is looking to recruit a qualified and experienced Operational Manager [OM] to work within the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).
It is essential that applicants for this post are already HCPC registered Paramedics. A suitable candidate must be fully HART trained with extensive experience in all the core HART competencies. Additional HART Instructor qualifications will be desirable but not essential.
Main duties of the job
HART is a specially recruited team of experienced Paramedics who are trained and equipped to provide the ambulance service response to high risk and complex emergency situations. The role of the HART OM is key to delivering the safe and effective daily running of the unit and the on-scene management of all HART assets during operational incidents.
WAST, HART is based in Bridgend South Wales but covers a Pan Wales response. As such successful applicants would be expected to be prepared for prolonged deployments if the situation required.
WAST HART are currently recruiting for a Full Time Permanent Operational Manager. This post is at Agenda for Change Band 7 and will include the associated unsocial hours for the current rota pattern.

In line with the Trust’s Starting Salary Procedure, all applicants will start at the bottom of the band for the position applied for, but can apply for a higher salary if they have previous experience relevant to the position.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Working collaboratively with the wider HART management team, the principal role of the Operations Manager – HART is the 24/7 operational leadership of the duty HART capability. Additionally, the Operations Manager – HART will be responsible for managing a team of 5 HART Operatives.
Maintaining full HART training and skill sets, the post-holder will work to their respective scope of practice. They will also need to be able to operate at band 6 level Paramedic when required in support of wider Operations, including responding to calls.
Operational management will be spent supporting the Locality Manager in ensuring the continuous provision of a safe and effective service.

Essential criteria
* Qualified as a HART Paramedic Operative in all skill sets
* Level 3 certificate in response ambulance driving/IHCD emergency driving
* Ability to demonstrate visible leadership in challenging and stressful situations
* HCPC registered Paramedic
