About You

Training & working pattern
* 12 weeks training; the first few weeks you will work Monday‑Friday, 10am‑6pm.
* Thereafter, training continues during your regular shift hours, Tuesday‑Saturday, 2pm‑10pm.
* 37.5 hours per week.
What you will do
* Follow a highly regulated end‑to‑end sterilisation/decontamination process on surgical instruments used in operations in local NHS and private hospitals to ensure they can be safely reused.
* Ensure effective preparation of sterile consumables by decontamination, inspection, assembly and packing within predefined quality standards.
* Rigorously wash, lay up and pack sets of theatre instruments to meet contract specifications and quality standards.
* Operate and monitor machines and equipment (washers/disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, sterilisers) safely and effectively.
* Record and log repairs and missing instruments or equipment on the Tracking and Traceability computer system (SynergyTrak).
* Return repaired instruments or equipment to stock, coded sets or the Trust’s appointed person.

Access to a Level 2 Healthcare Science Assistant Apprenticeship – a 12‑15 month fully funded programme in good scientific practice. You receive 20% of your working hours to study, and further apprenticeships are available throughout your career.
Required experience
* Educated to at least a good general standard with demonstrable verbal and numerical abilities.
* Basic end‑user IT skills to operate track‑and‑traceability systems.
